Al Shuyukh Mosque was built in 1913-1914 during the reign of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani. It was rebuilt in 1959 and took its current form in 1961, with recent renovations preserving its architectural style.
The mosque is named Al Shuyukh, meaning 'the elders', in honor of the respected scholars who led prayers here. It continues to serve as a gathering place for the community, especially for Friday prayers.
The mosque is located on Al Qasr Street in the Al Diwan Al Amiri area, making it easy to find. Visitors should dress modestly and be mindful of prayer times, as the mosque is an active place of worship.
The mosque houses a large crystal chandelier that was made in Germany and was considered the largest in the world when it was installed. Its minaret features an octagonal shaft, a cylindrical section, and a conical top, a design that became common in modern mosques across Qatar.
