Arcul de Triumf Bucharest, Triumphal arch in Bucharest, Romania.
Arcul de Triumf is a granite archway standing 27 meters tall above a rectangular base, stretching 25 meters in length. Its surfaces are covered with detailed carved sculptures created by two Romanian artists to honor national achievements.
The monument started as a wooden structure built in 1878 to celebrate Romania's independence. The stone version seen today was completed in 1936, replacing the earlier temporary construction with a permanent landmark.
The carvings on this monument tell stories of Romania's military past and show figures who mattered in the nation's struggles. Walking around it, you see how sculptors captured moments that people here still remember and respect.
An internal staircase leads up to an observation platform offering views across northern Bucharest and the nearby park. The stairs can be steep, so wear comfortable shoes for the climb.
Military parades take place in front of the monument every December 1st as part of the nation's annual celebrations. This continuing tradition shows how the structure remains central to Romanian national pride.
