Lloyd Palace, Timișoara, Eclectic architectural structure in Victory Square, Timișoara, Romania.
Lloyd Palace is a three-story building on Victory Square that blends Baroque and Art Nouveau elements in its design by Lipot Baumhorn. The facade displays decorative details that merge both styles, making it stand out in the city center.
Construction of Lloyd Palace took place between 1910 and 1912, funded by the Lloyd Society made up of farmers and grain merchants from the Banat region. The building represented the economic influence of this merchant class in the city.
The ground floor restaurant carries the original Lloyd name and has served as a social gathering place since 1926. People still meet here as locals have done for generations.
The palace sits in central Timisoara and houses a working restaurant on the ground floor along with university offices above. Its central location makes it easy to reach and the front entrance is clearly visible from the street.
During World War I, German Marshal August von Mackensen used the second floor as his headquarters in fall 1915. This military presence left its mark on the building, which was otherwise known as a merchant center.
