Castelul Teleki, Manor castle in Coltău, Romania.
Castelul Teleki is a two-story manor house with a classical facade in the village of Coltău, Maramureș County, Romania. The building sits within a large park with old trees surrounding it on all sides.
The castle was built in the late 18th century as the family seat of the noble Teleki family. After the property was taken from the family in 1949, it was eventually opened to visitors.
The castle now houses exhibition rooms with works by regional artists and personal memories of the Teleki family. It is also used for cultural events that keep local traditions alive.
The castle is located in the center of Coltău village and can be reached on foot from the main road. Visiting on a weekday tends to be quieter and allows more time to look around at your own pace.
A cornel tree in the castle park marks the spot where Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi spent time during his honeymoon in 1847. Petőfi wrote some of his most celebrated poems while staying in Coltău.
