Boncza-kastély

Boncza-kastély is a castle in rural Ciucea that combines neo-Byzantine features with corner towers and multiple floors. The complex includes exhibition spaces, gardens, and a mausoleum that together form an extensive estate.

The mansion was built in the late 19th century by Boncza Miklos and reflected the architectural style of that period. In 1920, Romanian writer Octavian Goga purchased it and carried out extensive modifications that shaped its current appearance.

The mansion serves as a memorial to Romanian writer Octavian Goga and displays his personal collections alongside objects connected to other literary figures of the era. Visitors can sense the building's role as a gathering place for intellectual life in Transylvania.

The estate is accessible through guided tours that show the various areas of the mansion, the gardens, and the mausoleum. Visitors should allow enough time to explore all sections and view the exhibitions at a comfortable pace.

The mausoleum on the grounds holds a detailed mosaic made from Venetian tiles that was crafted by a resident over many years with great care. This artwork is a rare example of craftsmanship preserved within the private spaces of a Romanian estate.
