The theatre building includes 687 seats and features architectural elements designed by Vsevolod Tatarinov in early 20th-century style.
The institution started as Sinđelić Theatre in 1887, with its first production of Serbian Hajduks by Jovan Sterija Popovic at Knez Mihajlo Inn.
The theatre organizes the festival Theater at the Crossroads, which connects performing artists from different Balkan countries through stage productions.
Regular performances occur throughout the season, with productions ranging from classical works like Anna Karenina to contemporary pieces like Fight Club.
The theatre received the Statuette of Joakim Vujić award and maintains a diverse program that includes both Serbian and international productions.
