Monastère de Denkovac

Monastère de Denkovac is a Serbian Orthodox monastery situated in a valley near the Dulenka River, surrounded by slopes of the Gledacke mountains. The buildings are arranged around a central courtyard with a church and residential structures following traditional monastic layout.

The earliest written record of this monastery dates to 1530, marking its importance during Ottoman rule. High stone walls were built around the structures at that time to protect the monastic community.

The monastery displays Moravian architectural features with its plastered and whitewashed walls that look simple from the outside. The interior decoration was refreshed in the 1980s, bringing new beauty to the prayer space.

The monastery is located in a valley near the city of Kragujevac in central Serbia. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes for exploring the area, as the terrain is hilly with some unpaved paths.

According to local tradition, three sisters founded three monasteries around the same period when the Ottomans ruled the region. This one was established alongside Raletinac and Sarinac, making this community historically distinctive.
