Monastère de Lipar

Lipar monastery is an Orthodox monastery in Donja Sabanta near Kragujevac, situated on a hill. The church buildings display traditional Moravian construction with semicircular apses and a defined altar space that characterize the entire complex.

An original monastery from the 16th century was destroyed during Ottoman rule. The current church structure was rebuilt in 1936 on the ancient foundations, preserving the site's historical continuity.

The monastery is named after the linden tree growing on the hill, a symbol of importance for the local community. The nuns carry out their daily practices at this meaningful location, which holds spiritual significance for many visitors.

The location is best reached on foot with narrow walking paths leading through the hills and small chapels. The monastery functions as an active religious community, so visitors should approach with respect and calm behavior.

The monastery produces its own medicinal herbs, including teas and drops made from garlic, hawthorn, and St. John's wort. These natural products are sold on site and reflect a craft tradition maintained by generations of nuns.
