Tupižnica, Mountain peak in eastern Serbia.
Tupižnica is a limestone mountain between Boljevac and Knjaževac rising to 1162 meters, featuring steep rocky cliffs on its western side and a broad plateau on the eastern side. The ridge connects these two distinct landscapes across a substantial ridgeline.
The mountain, also known as Lasovačka planina, became an important geographical feature of the Beli Timok basin and sustained local communities over many generations. Its cave formations reveal geological processes that shaped the landscape over thousands of years.
The mountain brings together people from nearby villages who share a connection to this landscape through grazing and seasonal gatherings. The limestone slopes have shaped how communities in the area live and use the land across generations.
The route to the summit follows a marked trail starting from Bucje village, covering roughly 15 kilometers and requiring about six to seven hours of walking time. Visitors should set out early in the day to have adequate light and manage the varied terrain and elevation changes.
Near the summit sits Ledenica cave, which holds ice formations throughout most of the year due to its specific chamber arrangement and natural temperature patterns. Visitors who reach the cave entrance encounter this frozen phenomenon even during summer months.
