Koporin Monastery, Medieval Orthodox monastery in Velika Plana, Serbia.
Koporin Monastery is a medieval Orthodox monastery featuring a single-nave church crowned with a dome. The complex sits in a wooded valley and includes a bell tower, monastic dormitory, and outbuildings for daily operations.
The monastery was founded in 1401 under Despot Stefan Lazarević and held strategic importance during the First Serbian Uprising of 1804. Its establishment occurred during a period when Serbian lands faced pressure from rival powers.
The frescoes on the monastery walls depict Despot Stefan Lazarević alongside noblemen from the early 1400s. These images reflect how closely the site was linked to Serbian ruling families of that era.
The monastery is accessible by car from the E75 highway exit at Velika Plana, with signs directing visitors through town toward the forest location. The route from the petrol station takes roughly one kilometer to reach the gates.
The reliquary holding Stefan Lazarević's remains opens only twice yearly on his death date and during the monastery feast day on August 1st. These rare openings mark significant occasions for pilgrims visiting the site.
