The Moscow theater hostage crisis was a terrorist attack that took place from 23 to 26 October 2002.
Around 850 hostages were taken by Chechen separatists during a performance of Nord-Ost, with more than 130 losing their lives.
The incident took place at the Dubrovka Theater, which had been renowned for its musical productions.
Since the incident, security measures at theatres across Russia have been drastically increased.
The tragedy ended after a controversial rescue operation using an unknown gas by Russian forces.
