Lipetsk

Lipetsk stretches along both banks of the Voronezh River and functions as the administrative center of Lipetsk Oblast with four main districts. The streets follow mostly parallel lines while industrial plants stand at the city edge and residential areas cluster around the historic center.

Peter the Great founded the settlement in 1703 as an iron production site near ore deposits for manufacturing artillery shells. The discovery of mineral springs in the early 19th century transformed the location into a spa town for medical treatments.

Orthodox churches open their doors for daily services and draw worshippers who light candles and pray before icons. Theaters and concert halls host regular performances that locals attend in the evenings and shape the social life of the community.

A network of trams, trolleybuses, and regular buses connects all main districts and makes getting around the city easier. Many facilities and parks lie within walking distance from the center while more distant areas require public transport.

Peat mud treatments and mineral water therapies have been practiced here for over two centuries and draw visitors seeking cures. Some of these facilities still operate today and offer therapeutic programs in historic buildings.
