Kamyshin

Kamyshin is a city on the right bank of the Volgograd Reservoir where the Kamyshinka River meets the Volga. The urban area spreads along the river plain, linking residential neighborhoods with industrial districts and a central business quarter.

Peter the Great founded a fort called Petrovsk in 1697 to guard workers building a canal between the Volga and Don rivers. The settlement later developed into a trading post and grew during the 19th century through river shipping and grain commerce.

The Regional Museum of Kamyshin contains exhibits about local traditions, industrial developments, and the agricultural heritage of the Volga region.

Public transport links residential and industrial areas with the center, running regularly during the day. The city is best explored on foot, with most streets forming a simple grid that makes it easy to find your way.

The region produces large quantities of watermelons and is recognized as Russia's main growing area for this fruit. During the harvest season in late summer, roadside stands appear throughout the city selling fresh melons from nearby fields.
