Located on the eastern bank of the Narva River, Ivangorod stands directly opposite the Estonian city of Narva, marking the international border between both nations.
Grand Prince Ivan III commissioned the construction of Ivangorod Fortress in 1492 to establish Russian control over the Baltic Sea and defend against the Livonian Order.
The fortress museum exhibits collections of regional archaeological artifacts, military equipment, and artworks by Russian painters Ivan Bilibin and Alexandra Shchekotikhina-Pototskaya.
Visitors require special permits to access Ivangorod due to its position within the border security zone, with checks conducted at designated control points.
The textile factories, food processing plants, and Narva Hydroelectric Station form the industrial foundation of this town with approximately 10,000 inhabitants.
