Central Armed Forces Museum, Military museum in northern Moscow, Russia
The Central Armed Forces Museum is a military museum in Moscow with 24 exhibition halls displaying equipment, uniforms, medals, photographs, and personal items. The collection holds about 800,000 objects, including the Victory Banner from 1945 and various military decorations.
The museum was founded in December 1919 by decree of the Revolutionary Military Council with an exhibition about the Red Army and Fleet. Over time it developed into a major center for documenting Russian military history for future generations.
The museum shows how Russia preserves and remembers its military past through objects that belonged to soldiers. Visitors can connect with personal stories through uniforms, medals, and everyday items that belonged to ordinary people who served.
The museum opens daily except Mondays and the last Thursday of each month, with tours available in multiple languages for individuals and groups. The outdoor area with tanks and artillery is accessible and allows visitors to explore the exhibits at their own pace.
The outdoor area displays 154 pieces of artillery, missile systems, tanks, and aircraft from different periods of Russian military development. This open-air collection shows technological progress from early aviation to modern combat systems.
