Nikitsky Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky, Russia
The monastery complex includes stone walls with towers, three churches, and the five-domed Cathedral of Saint Nikita from 1564 on Lake Pleshcheyevo.
Founded in 1010 by Prince Boris, son of Vladimir the Great, the monastery served as a stronghold for spreading Christianity among local pagans.
The monastery houses the relics of Saint Nikita the Stylite, a 12th-century monk who performed ascetic feats in a pillar within the monastery grounds.
The monastery welcomes visitors daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering religious services, confession opportunities, and prayer sessions according to Orthodox traditions.
Tsar Ivan the Terrible transformed the monastery into a fortified complex and donated a massive bronze chandelier that remains in the cathedral.
