Usolye-Sibirskoye, Industrial city in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia.
Usolye-Sibirskoye is a city on the left bank of the Angara River in Irkutsk Oblast, positioned around 440 meters above sea level. Buildings spread along the waterway, with industrial facilities and residential areas covering several kilometers of riverfront.
The Mikhalev brothers founded a settlement in 1669 after locating salt springs in the area. The town received its current name in 1940 to avoid confusion with other Russian salt-producing towns.
The city maintains its industrial character through salt mining operations, chemical manufacturing facilities, and machinery production plants across its urban landscape.
The town sits on the Trans-Siberian Railway and the highway between Novosibirsk and Irkutsk. Travelers can reach it by train or bus, though most pass through rather than stop for long.
The salt springs that once drove local prosperity now supply only a small fraction of regional production. Chemical manufacturing has since replaced salt extraction as the main economic driver for the town.
