Yurga, Industrial town in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia
Yurga is a town in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, that stretches along the Trans-Siberian railway line and connects several residential districts with industrial plants. The streets run parallel to the Tom River and offer wide avenues with Soviet-era apartment blocks and newer buildings.
The settlement began in the late 19th century as a small railway stop and grew with the expansion of the Trans-Siberian connection. After World War II, industrial growth started, transforming the settlement into an industrial town.
The name comes from a nearby river and recalls the geographic position in the Siberian lowlands. Local people often gather in parks along the Tom River, where summer walks and winter skating are common.
Most visitors arrive by train, as the station sits on the main line and offers regular connections. The town can be explored on foot, with main streets well marked and orientation easier by following the river.
The railway station was expanded in the early Soviet years with an architectural style that combines classical Russian elements with functional industrial forms. The old platform hall still shows original mosaics and wall decorations from that period.
