History and Art Museum

This museum occupies a former town hall building designed by architect Richard Seele in 1912 with striking art nouveau features and decorative elements. Inside, the space is divided into 11 exhibition halls arranged across multiple floors that house different collections.

The building was originally constructed in 1912 as a town concert hall for community events. During World War II it became a military hospital, and in 1946 it was converted into a museum.

The exhibits showcase regional natural history, archaeological discoveries from ancient Prussia, and historical weapons that tell the story of the area. Visitors see how the region developed after the war and learn about the local community's connection to this place.

The museum sits along the Lower Pond and welcomes visitors throughout the day with guided tours available for the permanent and changing exhibitions. Plan enough time to explore all the rooms and the different topics displayed across the floors.

The museum manages several branch locations, including Fort No. 5 and a bunker museum housed in a former war shelter. Visitors can also explore an outdoor sculpture park on a nearby island that operates as part of the museum network.
