Bolaq is a waterway system running through central Kazan that divides neighborhoods and provides space for commerce and movement throughout the city. Both sides feature developed embankments with streets that function as major pathways for traffic and pedestrians.

The area is easy to walk along since both embankments offer continuous pathways for strolling and sightseeing. Keep in mind that these waterfront streets serve as main roads during rush hours, so timing your visit earlier in the day may be more pleasant.
Each August 30, during Tatarstan Republic Day, the roads become car-free zones filled with outdoor cafes and art displays throughout this stretch. This annual celebration brings crowds of locals and visitors who enjoy the festive energy and cultural activities that take over the waterfront.
