Moscow Paleontological Museum

The Moscow Paleontological Museum is a science institution in the Russian capital that displays fossils and specimens spanning hundreds of millions of years of Earth's development. The collection includes complete skeletons of extinct animals, petrified plant remains, and geological evidence from the Cambrian through Quaternary periods.

The institution began in 1937 as a research center dedicated to documenting and studying prehistoric life across the Soviet territory. Over the following decades, expeditions to remote regions of Siberia and Central Asia expanded the holdings with numerous important fossil discoveries.

Some of the fossils come from permafrost regions and remain so well preserved that fragments of skin and hair are still visible. These rare finds allow visitors to see the outer appearance of prehistoric creatures, details that usually disappear at other excavation sites.
