Catherine the Great commissioned the palace in 1792 for her grandson Alexander, making it the principal residence of the Romanov dynasty until 1917.
The palace rooms display furnishings, paintings, and personal belongings of the last Russian imperial family, reflecting the early 20th-century royal lifestyle.
The museum opens daily except Tuesdays from 10:00 to 18:00, with guided tours available in multiple languages and advance booking recommended for group visits.
The palace served as the final residence of Tsar Nicholas II and his family before their exile to Tobolsk in August 1917.
