The Altstadt Church features brick walls, Gothic architectural elements, and a prominent position near the Pregel River in central Kaliningrad.
Built in 1201, the church transformed from a Catholic parish to Lutheran worship in 1526 when the Duchy of Prussia established Protestantism.
The church building contained wooden carvings from 1606, including a 13-meter altar depicting the crucifixion of Jesus with religious figures.
The remains of the church structure provide reference points for understanding the medieval layout of Kaliningrad's historical center.
Columns from the church's portico now stand at the entrance of Kaliningrad's Baltika Stadium, connecting past and present architectural elements.
