Saviour Church on Nereditsa, Orthodox church in Novgorod Region, Russia
The Saviour Church on Nereditsa is a stone building with a cubic structure supported by four pillars and topped by a central dome. The eastern side features three apses, while the interior is decorated with frescoes painted by different artists.
Prince Yaroslav Vladimirovich commissioned the construction in 1198, with the interior frescoes completed the following year. The building served as an important religious center throughout the centuries that followed.
The interior walls display frescoes created by multiple artists, whose styles vary across different sections of the church. The dome features an uncommon depiction of the Ascension rather than the typical Christ the Saviour image.
The church stands approximately 1.5 kilometers south of Veliky Novgorod near the Maly Volkhovets River. Access is best arranged through guided tours organized by local museums or heritage organizations.
The structure suffered severe damage from artillery fire during World War II, necessitating an extensive reconstruction effort. Many of the elements visible today were carefully restored to preserve the original character.
