Borodinskaya panorama museum, Historical museum in Victory Park, Moscow, Russia
Borodinskaya panorama sits inside a circular glass building in Victory Park, Moscow, and displays a monumental wrap-around painting about the 1812 war. The canvas measures 115 meters (377 feet) long and 15 meters (49 feet) high and surrounds visitors completely.
Artist Franz Roubaud finished the wrap-around painting in 1912 for the centenary of the Battle of Borodino on August 26, 1812. The work was evacuated to Novosibirsk during the Second World War and later returned to Moscow.
The painting bears the Russian name for the battle and recalls the decisive fight between Russian troops and the French army. Visitors today notice mainly school groups and veteran associations who come here to honor fallen soldiers.
The building opens Monday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM and until 9 PM on Thursdays. Standing in the center of the platform gives the best view of the entire battlefield scene.
A small hall holds the reconstructed peasant hut of Mikhail Frolov from 1887, where General Kutuzov held his war council. The hut shows simple wooden furniture and the narrow room where officers debated strategy.
