Памятник Кутузову

The monument depicts Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov on horseback in ceremonial dress, surrounded by 26 bronze companions on a granite base. The figures stand closely together, forming a powerful composition along Kutuzovsky Prospekt.

Fundraising for the monument began in 1912, but construction was not completed and unveiled until 1973. This long delay reflects the turbulent events that shaped the 20th century.

The monument carries inscriptions honoring Kutuzov and the commanders who led to victory in 1812. The surrounding figures tell the story of the men who shaped that pivotal moment in history.

The monument stands near the Borodino Panorama Museum along Kutuzovsky Prospekt and is accessible from Kievskaya metro station in western Moscow. The location sits on a major thoroughfare, making visits relatively straightforward.

Each of the 26 bronze figures bears facial features resembling actual historical figures, including Bagration and Yermolov. This detail transforms the monument into a portrait gallery of military leaders from a pivotal era.
