The Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theatre sits in a modern building on Taras Shevchenko Embankment. It houses two performance halls seating 450 and 150 spectators, showing theatre productions year-round.
Founded in 1993 by director Pyotr Fomenko, the theatre grew from his earlier student workshop programme at a Moscow arts institute. His transition from teaching young actors to establishing this independent venue marked a turning point in his career.
The theatre stages interpretations of Russian literary classics like War and Peace and Three Sisters. Performers here represent generations of actors trained within its own school, developing a distinct approach to these well-known stories.
The building sits on a high slope overlooking the Moscow River and is accessible by metro. Visitors should book in advance, as performances can sell out quickly during popular seasons.
The building features natural stone facades combined with aluminum panels in an unusual architectural composition. This material combination and riverside setting create a design that stands out among cultural venues in the city.
