Chikurachki

The volcano rises to 1,816 meters above sea level on Paramushir Island, featuring distinctive red oxidized andesitic scoria deposits covering its upper section.

Multiple eruptions have marked the history of this basaltic volcano, with the most recent significant activity recorded in July 2016.

The name Chikurachki reflects the indigenous heritage of the Kuril Islands region, where local communities have lived near volcanic landscapes for generations.

Access to the volcano requires extensive preparation and permits due to its location in a remote part of the Russian Far East.

The lava flows from this volcano have extended to the sea, creating new geographical formations along the northwest coast of Paramushir Island.
