Yorck-Denkmal, War memorial in Mittelhufen district, Königsberg, East Prussia.
The Yorck Monument was a war memorial in Königsberg featuring a bronze statue of General Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg dressed in military uniform. The figure stood upright holding a sword, positioned at a prominent location in the city.
The monument was unveiled in 1914 to commemorate the centenary of the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon. Soviet authorities removed the statue in 1947 and subsequently replaced it with different sculptures over the following years.
The monument represented Prussian military values and commemorated General Yorck's address to East Prussian estates during the Napoleonic Wars.
The monument once stood at Walter-Simon-Platz in the city center. The location is now part of present-day Kaliningrad and remains a notable spot to visit.
After Soviet authorities removed the original statue, the pedestal was replaced three times: first with a bust of Stalin, then with Marx, and finally with an artistic interpretation of Marx by a different sculptor. These successive changes reflected shifting political priorities of the era.
