Theophany Convent is a monastery complex in Kostroma featuring a cathedral, fortified stone walls with six towers, and multiple religious structures. The buildings are arranged around a central courtyard in a trapezoidal pattern, typical of Russian Orthodox monastery design.
The convent was founded in the 1420s by Nikita of Kostroma, a disciple of Saint Sergius of Radonezh, initially as a male monastery. It transitioned to a female community in 1863 and has remained so since.
The Epiphany Cathedral, constructed between 1559 and 1565, stands as the oldest preserved stone structure in the entire city of Kostroma.
The complex is open for viewing from outside, allowing visitors to appreciate the architecture and fortified walls. Spring through autumn offer the most pleasant conditions for exploring the exterior and taking photographs.
