Бирюлёво, Noble estate in southern Moscow, Russia
Biryulyovo Estate sits on the left bank of the Gorodenka River and contains buildings from different time periods. The property includes a manor house, farm buildings, and open grounds that show traces of its rural past.
It first appeared in records in 1627 when Ivan Vasilyevich Pleshcheyev owned it. Over the following centuries, it passed through the hands of several noble families before the Obolensky family took control.
The name comes from the birch trees that once covered the grounds. The Obolensky family left their mark on how the estate developed and how locals remember this place today.
The grounds are now part of the modern Biryulyovo neighborhood and are best explored during daylight when building details are clear. Wear comfortable shoes since some paths across the property are unpaved and uneven.
Under the Obolensky family, the property became a working farm with over 100 people living there. When Nikolai Petrovich Obolenskij acquired it in 1815, he transformed it into a more developed settlement that shaped the whole area.
