Bryansky Les Nature Reserve

Bryansky Les Nature Reserve consists of forests featuring pine, oak, and birch trees located between two rivers. The terrain includes different forest zones with varying soil types and moisture levels across the protected area.

The reserve gained official protected status in 1987 following campaigns by local conservationists and writers. These efforts highlighted the ecological value of the forest and secured its preservation.

The black stork is the symbol of this protected area and represents the commitment to safeguarding endangered species across Russia. Visitors can observe the diverse bird populations that inhabit the various forest types throughout the reserve.

Access to the reserve is available through guided tours led by experienced naturalists. Wear sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing, as the terrain can be wet and uneven in places.

All ten European woodpecker species can be found living together in this single location, making it exceptionally rare across Europe. This concentration of woodpeckers exists because of the variety of forest types and habitats within the protected area.
