State Public Scientific & Technological Library, Research library in Novosibirsk, Russia
The State Public Scientific and Technological Library is a research center housing 14 million documents in a modernist building with 18 reading rooms for academic work. The spaces are designed to help researchers work with focus while accessing an enormous collection of materials across many subjects.
This institution was founded in 1966 as part of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and grew into a major research center. It became the largest library east of the Urals and remains central to the region's scientific infrastructure today.
The library houses a Museum of the Book displaying old manuscripts and documents gathered from expeditions across Siberia and the Russian Far East. Visitors can see how the institution preserves materials that tell the story of the region's past.
The library is accessible to visitors and offers extensive collections in both printed and digital formats through various databases. Access to resources can happen through multiple channels, so both in-person and remote requests can be handled.
The library automatically receives a copy of every book published in Russia, building an ever-growing national collection. This responsibility makes it a key place for documenting what Russia publishes and creates.
