Porokhovshchikov House
Porokhovshchikov House, Wooden landmark in Arbat District, Moscow, Russia
The two-story wooden mansion features Russian Revival architecture with carved window frames, cornices, and decorative elements made by craftsman I.A. Kolpakov in 1872.
The residence, built for businessman Alexander Porokhovshchikov, owner of the Slavyansky Bazaar hotel and restaurant, received recognition at the 1873 Vienna World Exhibition.
The house contained a women's Sunday school, a pedagogical museum, and a library, serving as an educational center for Moscow's intellectual community.
After complete restoration in 2004, the historical building now functions as a club house with six private apartments maintaining its architectural elements.
The mansion holds a collection of tragic events, including the deaths of actor Alexander Porokhovshchikov and his wife Irina, descendants of the original owner.
