Museum of International Numismatic Club, Numismatic museum in Khamovniki District, Moscow, Russia.
The Museum of International Numismatic Club is a coin museum on Bolshoy Afanasyevsky Lane in the Khamovniki District of Moscow, Russia. It displays coins and historical currencies spanning from ancient times to modern Russian money, with digital screens placed alongside the exhibits.
The museum opened in 2015 inside the Yusupov-Zinoviev Chambers, a structure dating back to the 17th century that had been renovated before the museum moved in. The collection itself grew over several decades as a private assembly before becoming a public exhibition.
The building known as the Yusupov-Zinoviev Chambers gives the exhibitions a setting that feels rooted in Russian history. The coins on display, ranging from ancient pieces to modern Russian currency, show how trade and power shaped the way money looked across different periods.
Digital tablets placed next to the coins let you zoom in on details and read inscriptions that would otherwise be hard to see. It is worth setting aside enough time, as the information available for each piece is fairly detailed and rewards a slow visit.
The collection was assembled by Vagit Alekperov and covers pieces from ancient Greece through to recent times, a range that few private collectors manage to achieve. This makes the museum one of the few places in Moscow where you can see Greek, Roman, and Russian coins side by side.
