Monument to Gogol, Bronze monument in Arbat District, Russia
The Monument to Gogol sits along the boulevard in central Moscow and depicts the Russian writer standing upright with carefully detailed clothing. The bronze figure is surrounded by walkways and forms a fixed landmark in the urban landscape.
The monument was erected in 1952 and replaced an earlier work following a new artistic conception. It came about during a period when the state had strong control over public art and cultural representation.
The statue represents Gogol as a major literary figure and has become part of the everyday landscape of the boulevard. It serves as a natural gathering point and reference point for people moving through this part of the city.
The monument sits on Gogol Boulevard and is easy to reach on foot, with the nearby Arbatskaya metro station as the main access point. The boulevard itself has wide walkways and is well set up for pedestrians.
The figure was created by sculptor Nikolai Tomsky and carries physical features that reflect the artistic vision of that particular era. This way of portraying the writer remains visible to visitors today and differs noticeably from other Gogol depictions in other locations.
