The Two Captains memorial is a bronze statue of two sailors standing side by side and supporting each other. The sculpture was created by Saint Petersburg artists M. Belov and A. Ananiev and sits on Oktyabrsky Avenue in front of the Regional Library.
The statue was unveiled on July 22, 1995 and is based on two characters from Veniamin Kaverin's novel about polar exploration and Soviet ideals. It emerged from a literary tradition honoring Russian sailors and brave explorers.
