Dunay, Primorsky Krai, Port settlement in Fokino, Russia
Dunay is a port settlement in Fokino situated along the Gulf of Peter the Great coastline at roughly 29 meters elevation. It functions under Fokino's administrative oversight as a transport hub for the surrounding region.
The settlement began in 1907 when families from Moldova established homes near a Korean settlement at Konyushkov Bay. A railroad line to the neighboring settlement was added later, enabling regular passenger connections from 1940 onward.
The settlement's name comes from early residents who saw a small stream and named it after the Danube, the great river they knew from their homeland.
A railroad line connects the settlement to Smolyaninovo, offering a way to explore the area. Visitors should note this is a remote coastal location, so checking supply and accommodation options beforehand is important.
Early residents quickly abandoned failed attempts at farming and turned instead to fishing and harvesting. They collected scallops and sea cucumbers, transporting these to Vladivostok for trade purposes.
