Burg Saalau

Burg Saalau is a castle ruin located in Chernyakhovsky District within the Kaliningrad region. The structure features a main southern wing and a western wing built upon a high fieldstone base with distinctive black-fired brick patterns.

The castle was founded in 1352 under the control of the Teutonic Order. After the order's secularization in 1525, the building changed its function and served as an administrative seat.

The castle reflects the building traditions that the Teutonic Order established across this region. Visitors can observe in its remains how such fortresses were constructed and the role they played in local life.

The castle ruins are currently closed to visitors and have been inaccessible since 1991. It is worth checking the current status beforehand in case this situation changes.
