Kotelniki, Railway and metro station in Kotelniki, Russia
Kotelniki is a metro station on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line of the Moscow Metro, serving as the eastern terminus of the line and located in Moscow Oblast. It has an island platform with two tracks and also connects to a regional railway service.
The station opened in 2015 as part of an extension of the Moscow Metro beyond the city boundary and into Moscow Oblast. It was the first time a metro line crossed into the oblast to serve communities outside the capital.
Kotelniki sits just outside the Moscow city boundary, making it one of the few metro stations located in Moscow Oblast rather than the city itself. Commuters from the surrounding residential blocks use it daily as their main gateway into the capital.
As the terminus, trains begin and end their journey here, so finding a seat at departure is usually easy. Those continuing by regional rail will find the commuter train platform right next to the metro exit.
Alongside regular passenger traffic, freight trains with tank wagons pass through the site to distribute fuel across the region. This makes it one of the few metro-adjacent locations where travelers can watch active freight operations from the platform.
