Levashovo, airbase in Saint Petersburg, Russia
Levashovo is a military air base located southwest of the city district in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The facility features long concrete runways, multiple hangars spanning about 170 meters, and operational buildings spread across flat terrain and enclosed by a security fence.
The base was constructed in 1960 during the Cold War and has served as a facility for the Russian Aerospace Forces since then. Originally established as a transport aviation unit in the 1940s, the site underwent several organizational changes before adopting its current configuration.
The facility is closed to the public due to its military status, though aircraft movements may be visible from a distance. The flat terrain and open spaces allow routine flight operations and helicopter activities that typically occur during daytime and early morning hours.
Since 2021, the base has received modern infrastructure upgrades including new runways and hangars, featuring a small civilian passenger terminal built in cooperation with a private aviation company. This modernization demonstrates the site's dual capability for both civilian and military operations.
