Lefortovo Park, Historic park in Lefortovo District, Moscow, Russia
Lefortovo Park is a green space featuring multiple ponds, including the rectangular island canal system and seven water bodies such as Sapozhok and Banny ponds. Pathways and plantings connect these water features throughout the park layout.
The park was founded in 1703 by Field Marshal Fyodor Golovin and gained new importance in 1722 when Peter I acquired it for his Moscow residence. This early development established the core structure visible today.
The park takes its name from the Lefortovo District and serves as a protected cultural site. Visitors walking through it experience a place shaped by Moscow's architectural past.
The main entrance is located on Krasnokazarmennaya Street, accessible via trams and buses. Public transportation routes make it straightforward to reach the site.
According to local accounts, during Empress Anna Ioanovna's reign, mature trees were supposedly planted overnight in the Annengof Grove section. This tale reflects how grand display and landscape design merged in early Russian royal gardens.
