Надымское городище

Nadym Hillfort is an archaeological site in the Yamalo-Nenets region featuring earth ramparts on a river island. The settlement traces remain visible as raised earthen structures that once enclosed the residential area along the western Nadym River tributary.

People first inhabited this place around the 1st century, though major settlement and construction occurred between the 16th and 18th centuries. The earth ramparts visible today were built during this later period of occupation.

Archaeological excavations revealed over 15,000 artifacts including mammoth ivory items, weapons, children's toys, and remains of residential structures.

The site sits on an island accessible by boat during warmer months, when water levels allow passage. Sturdy footwear and readiness for wet, boggy ground are important when exploring the ramparts and surrounding terrain.

Excavations uncovered more than 15,000 artifacts including mammoth ivory, weapons, and toys, revealing intimate details of daily life. These objects show that roughly 250 residents sustained themselves through hunting and fishing in this remote location.
