Монумент воинской и трудовой Славы, War and Labor Glory Monument in Penza, Russia
The monument features a bronze soldier holding a rifle standing beside a mother figure with a child mounted on a six-meter granite pedestal. The complex is surrounded by a five-pointed star shape formed by granite staircases that radiate toward different streets in the city.
The memorial opened on May 9, 1975, to mark the 30th anniversary of victory in World War II. Local workers funded the construction through their contributions.
The monument holds a Book of Memory carved into the granite staircase, recording the names of over 100,000 fallen soldiers from the Penza region. Visitors can encounter these names while walking through the complex and pay their respects to those remembered here.
The site is easily accessible on foot and features walking paths and landscaped green spaces throughout the grounds. The five-pointed star layout means that the best views of the monument change depending on which direction you approach from.
The construction was funded entirely by local workers through their own contributions rather than government funding. This makes the memorial a symbol of community participation in honoring those who fought and died.
