Nicholas-Radovitsky Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Radovitsy, Russia.
The Nicholas-Radovitsky Monastery is a Russian Orthodox monastery in the village of Radovitsy, in the Moscow Oblast. It consists of a church, residential buildings for monks, and a bell tower, all enclosed within a traditional monastery wall.
The monastery was founded in 1584 as a place of prayer and religious instruction in the rural lands east of Moscow. It survived the Soviet era, when monastic life was severely restricted, and was revived as an active religious community after 1991.
The monastery is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, one of the most venerated figures in Russian Orthodox faith. Visitors today can watch monks going about their daily routines and see locals coming for prayer, especially on feast days.
The monastery sits in a rural village and is most easily reached by car along local roads from the surrounding area. Modest dress is expected when entering the church or any of the religious buildings on the grounds.
The monastery is home to an icon of Saint Nicholas that has long been considered miraculous and drew pilgrims from across Russia for centuries. This icon was the main reason why a monastery in such a remote rural location became a widely known place of pilgrimage.
