Novosibirsk Rail Bridge, Railway bridge in Novosibirsk, Russia.
The Novosibirsk Rail Bridge is a railway crossing over the Ob River made up of nine spans resting on granite pillars. The semi-parabolic steel trusses rise roughly 17 meters above the water surface.
Built between 1893 and 1897, this bridge marked the founding of Novosibirsk and the start of the Trans-Siberian Railway in the region. The structure connected this isolated area to the national railway network for the first time.
The bridge symbolizes Russian engineering prowess and marked an economic expansion moment in Siberia during the late 1800s. It connected this remote region to the broader empire and helped establish Novosibirsk as a growing settlement.
The bridge is accessible only to train traffic and not open to pedestrians, so it is best viewed from the river or nearby riverbank areas. Several viewpoints near the structure offer good vantage points for observation.
An original section of the bridge remains preserved as an exhibition at City Beginning Park along the waterfront. This relic displays the craftsmanship and design details of the 1800s construction.
