Park of the December uprising, Public park in central Moscow, Russia
Park of the December Uprising is a public green space in central Moscow spanning about 6.6 hectares between Presnya Square and 1905 Street. Granite monuments, bronze sculptures, decorative walls, and walking paths structure the landscaped grounds throughout the site.
The park was created in 1920 as a memorial to the December 1905 uprising, when workers and soldiers rebelled against tsarist rule. A black granite obelisk and additional monuments mark this pivotal moment in Russia's revolutionary struggle.
The memorial ensemble 'Cobblestone as a Weapon of the Proletariat' in the northern section features a bronze sculpture and a Lenin quote that speak to working-class resistance. This symbolic placement gives the space meaning for those reflecting on Russia's revolutionary past.
The park is open 24 hours with multiple entrances near 1905 metro station for easy access. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended as paths are passable year-round and the space invites leisurely strolls.
The former guardhouse of Presnya Outpost stands as the only remaining structure from 18 original buildings that once lined the Kamer-Kollezhsky rampart. This rare survivor offers a window into old Moscow's architectural past.
