The monument features two bronze figures: a young man in military coat holding a rifle and a barefoot girl bidding farewell.
The memorial commemorates 111 students from Tyumen schools who left for the front during World War II and never returned home.
On June 22nd each year, surviving graduates from the 1940s gather at the monument to lay flowers and remember their fallen classmates.
Located in the Farewell Square on Respubliki Street, the monument includes marble pylons listing the names of fallen school graduates.
The girl's bare feet in the sculpture symbolize the sudden onset of war and hasty departure of students to the battlefield.
