Покровская церковь

Pokrovskaya Church is a red brick building with a white stone foundation located in Rzhev, featuring traditional Russian architectural design elements. The bell tower contains eight bells and creates a distinctive profile against the city skyline.

The building was constructed in 1908 with funding from Rzhev merchants and served as shelter for around 250 residents during the German occupation in World War II. The church played an important role in protecting the local population during this difficult period.

The church maintains Old Believer traditions and serves as a religious center for the local community, preserving historical liturgical practices and ceremonies.

The church currently operates and welcomes visitors during regular services attended by the faithful. The building is centrally located in the city and easily accessible on foot.

The main bell tower contains a particularly heavy bell weighing over one ton, which gives the church its distinctive sound quality. The iconostasis was specially crafted by Moscow artisans and installed during the original construction.
