Покровская церковь, Old Believer church in Rzhev, Russia
The red brick Pokrovskaya Church stands on a white stone foundation, featuring traditional Russian architectural elements and a bell tower with eight bells.
Built in 1908 with funds from Rzhev merchants, the church became a shelter for 250 local residents during the German occupation in World War II.
The church maintains Old Believer traditions and serves as a religious center for the local community, preserving historical liturgical practices and ceremonies.
The church holds regular services and remains the only religious building in Rzhev that operated continuously throughout the Soviet period.
The largest bell in the church tower weighs more than 1.5 tons, while the iconostasis was specially delivered from Moscow during construction.
