Ржевский краеведческий музей

Rzhev Local History Museum holds over 10,000 objects from various periods of the region, including archaeological finds, handmade items, and written sources. The collections partly come from noble estates and were enriched by significant acquisitions from scholars such as M.S. Vorobyov.

The institution was founded in 1916 and gained archaeological status in 1917 with works from various private collections of noble households. During World War II, artifacts related to the Battle of Rzhev were preserved, which later became a focus of the museum's exhibition.

The museum displays traditional crafts such as spinning wheels and tools for making printed gingerbread, which continue to reflect local identity today. These objects tell the story of everyday skills that were once common knowledge among families and help define the character of the region.

Located on Krasnoarmeyskaya Embankment, the site offers guided tours and educational programs for schools with accessible facilities. Plan time to read the labels and explanations, as understanding the context helps visitors appreciate the connections between different objects and time periods.

A detailed diorama depicts the Battle of Rzhev from 1942 to 1943 with original documents and field artifacts from that period. This reconstruction was installed in 2005 and remains one of the most vivid presentations of this local wartime event.
